Day seven: Portlandia S01E01

I have a weak spot for sketches, and I really love quick and quirky ones. Well, Portlandia seems like a good one.

SNL ex member Frank Armisen and Carrie Brownstein have made it to the dream of the 90's that is Portland, Oregon.

Frank goes to Carrie and tell him about Portland and how awesome it is. Frank is singing that the dream of the 90's is alive in Portland. During the song, Carrie joins.

I love the intro song by the way, it's chill and nice for a good summer day.

The first sketch is about a couple who wants to know more about the chicken that the restaurant serves. They visit the farm and join the farm, with their leider that is played by Jason Sudekis. Eventually when the leader dies, which is a couple of years later, they realise it's a cult, go to the restaurant and go order the salmon. They'll have a million of questions about it.

The second sketch is about always being online. Frank needs help and he is using to much Apple. Then they have WiFi but for their minds. Eventually Frank will get offline and someone laugh about him.

The third sketch is about two owners of a store. A guy walks in and go to the toilet. They won't let him go and the customer is getting annoyed. Eventually the owners leave the store and lock it, and the customer is still inside.

The fourth sketch is about hide and seek in the library. It's dramatic and stuff. Nobody found Frank. Then a guy comes and says he won. He's been hiding since 1979.

My verdict: What was that. Quick, weird but funny. It's a good one. 4 stars out of 5, 8 out of 10.

Day Six: Scrubs S01E01

Oh yes. It's happening. One of my favorite TV-shows there have ever been, and trust me, I don't have more then 5 that I can watch every time and still enjoy it. One of them is Scrubs. JD, Turk, Carla, Elliot, Dr. Cox and his passion for the Detroit Red Wings... Well, back to the first one ever.

We'll start off with John Dorian(Better known as J.D.) who starts at Sacred Heart. There is a flashback about how his information day started. The hospital doesn't want to be sued and that kinda stuff. Elliot walks into the room, J.D. likes her instantly, and Turk too, after doing a horrible impression of E.T.

Let me tell you this, Netflix doesn't have all the original music on Scrubs. So if you want the full experience, buy the DVD's. They are more then worth it, and the music is really important and great in this show. It's what keeps the show going and going into the emotions.

Back to where we were... J.D. gets to meet Carla, but he stays to look at her. Because of this, he doesn't see the lamp and hits it pretty hard. Then he meets Dr Cox, who seems as a someone who doesn't care about anyone and loves to make crappy comments.

During rounds, J.D. keeps his secret that he didn't do the patient's IV, but a nurse. Elliot runs in late and is let go when she answers Dr Kelso's answer correctly. J.D. helps her and she is let off. Then he asks Elliot on a date, and she says yes. Turk tells J.D. he doesn't want to live with J.D. anymore. J.D. agrees, but inside he's really against that idea.

Then suddenly Dr Kelso comes in, looking on his way to destroy someone. He tells him that if someone knows his secret, he will be fired immediately. "Have a terrific day".

Cox makes JD scared because he tells him that he might kill someone one or the other day. J.D. needs to be on-call in the evening. Burski, a patient, passes away and nurse Laverne tells him it happens to everyone. Turk tells J.D. he wants to live with him again.

Elliot apologizes to J.D. for not going out with him. She gives him a kiss on his cheek. J.D. walks to th eexit, and is happy that he got through his first three days without looking like a complete idiot.

My verdict: This might be, hands down, the best pilot there has ever been. It's fun, fast and it's good written. 4,8 stars out of 5 and a 9,7 out of 10.

Day Five: Inside: McDonald's

I love food. Who doesn't? But not only healthy food is great, but fast food is always a very nice part of food. I found while searching Netflix Inside: McDonald's. Is this 20 minute part any good?

Don Thompson(The CEO and president of McDonald's) is interviewed by someone from Bloomberg. Thompson talks about that the minimum wage is higher at McDonald's than the average. Not something I believe, but alright. 1 on 8 Americans have worked at McDonald's. There are 145 choices on the menu.

Deb tells about how they made some of the new McDonald's product. One product from McCafĂ©(Or something like that) was made over 4 years. That's pretty long for such a small thing. They have a test place where people will test all day new shakes, burgers and fries. Looks like every 8-year old dream, but after one day, I don't think you will go to Mickey D  very soon again.

The average wait time at McDonald's are 90 seconds. Sounds reasonable, but I had a lot of times that I had to wait over 3 minutes because the burger or fries were out of stock and they needed to get more or begin making new once(Well, frying. They don't make anything there).

It's kinda weird to see a Smoothie at McDonald's, but that's because I'm not from America, so it's weird to see the new items that they have at McD. It is discuss able if it's healthy, if it's quality, if the food is made with love to the animals or with cruel intentions, and if it is great. But fast food is one great thing.

The interview was not critical, which was a shame because I would like to see the interviewer attacking him about health concerns and about obesity, which is of course hugh in America.

Small post? Yes. But it was 20 minutes. Why did I choose this? Because I wanted to see what they would ask and it was a little bit disappointing. Leave this, don't play it guys.

Btw, Big Mac is the way to go.

Day Four: Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Oh yes. It's that time of the year again. No, not Christmas, but the day I've watched my favorite movie from the Christmas time: Home Alone 2: Lost In New York.

Kevin and his family decide to go to Miami for a nice holiday during the Christmas times. But at the airport, Kevin needs to switch the battery of his camera. During this, he loses track of his dad. He sees him and follows him. In the plane, he can't find him so quickly but sits down. When the plane touches down, he notices that the city he landed looks a bit different than Miami. Big skyscrapers and the Tw... Twin Towers? This must be a mistake, and he asks a member at the airport. Unfortunate
Yikes, I did it again...!
for Kevin, she confirms he is in the Biggest Apple of them all, New York City.

He uses his father's credit card to get a hotel room in the "Ding-Dong, Plaza Hotel!" "This is Peter McCallister.... The father....". During a visit at Central Park, Kevin is very scared when he comes across a homeless women who is busy with feeding pigeons.

Kevin tours the city with a limousine, while enjoying a nice pizza. During this, he visit a toy store and meets the owner, Mr Duncan. He tells Kevin that the money of the Christmas sale will be donated to the children's hospital. Kevin decides to give some money to that, and gets to choose something. He chooses the turtledoves, the sign of eternal friendship. When the camera focuses on a gingerbread looking house, we see two familiar faces. Yikes! The Wet Bandits are back! When Kevin encounters them, he screams and runs back to the hotel. He sees the owner there, he explains that there are two big man following him. The owner:"What's the matter..? They wouldn't take your..... STOLEN CREDITCARD?!"

Kevin screams to get an advantage of the Wet Bandits.
He gets his stuff from his room and escapes. He falls into the hands of the Wet Bandits and they tell that they are going to rob the toy store of Mr Duncan. Kevin can escape by squeezing the butt of a lady, she looks to him and he put his finger in the direction of Marv. These two have encounters one time ago and he gets a big punch. Kevin can escape. The family go to New York because of the information of the stolen credit card and decide to search for Kevin. Kevin decides to go to his uncle Rob's house. He finds out they are in Paris during the renovation of their house. When he goes to Central Park, he sees the pigeon woman again. He talk with her and discovers how her life has gotten out of hand and how she dealt with it because of feeding the pigeons.

Kevin will return to the house of uncle Rob to make booby traps and that kind of stuff like Home Alone 1. Well, he wins of course by luring them to Central Park, throw bird food over the Wet Bandits and they will get arrested.

At Rockefeller Center, Kevin is talking to the Christmas Tree when he hears a familiar sound. It's his mom, and they hug and that kind of corny love. In the end they are all together and celebrate Christmas at the Plaza Hotel. Kevin goes to the pigeon lady and give him 1 of the 2 turtledoves. His dad can be heard outside screaming:"Kevin, have you spent $967 on room service?". Kevin runs off quickly.

My verdict: Must watch, I love it. I know the movie out of my head but my love for New York and this movie is just the best Christmas movie there ever is and will be. 5 stars of 5, 10 out of 10.

Day Three: Goon

Ice Hockey is a great sport. It's apparently so great, that they made a movie about it. Goon is about Doug Glatt. He is maybe not the smartest, but he is one great fighter. During a game that he is watching at the stadium, a player wants to fight his friend, who looks to have Tourettes. Doug stands up for him and punches him knock out.
He gets a phone call which turns to be from the coach of his home town ice hockey team. Doug's idol, Ross Shea is demoted to the minors after having a 20 game suspension, because he slashed an opponent in the head from behind(naughty boy). Three years before this incident, Shea hit Xavier Laflamme, a player who was rated high and was a real talent. He got an concussion and because of that, he was so much in fear, that he couldn't play like he used to anymore.
Doug is called up for the Halifax Highlanders, to protect Laflamme from Ross Shea. They get into a great successful couple games and they win mostly everything.

The Highlanders got 4 games remaining and they need to win two games to secure the playoff spot. In Quebec, an opposing player gets Laflamme and he gets another concussion. Doug beats the player K.O. and is suspended for the next game that is against the St John's Shamrock, the team of Rhea. At a diner, Rhea tells Doug he is not a hockey player, but a goon.

When Doug reaches out to Laflamme he will promise that he will always protect him. In the game, when they are 1-0 up, Doug blocks a slapshot with his face and bleeds heavily. He gets a skate in his ankle and is injured. They win, but need a win against Rhea and his team to secure the playoff spot.

Two of the three periods have gone and the Shamrocks are 2-0 up. Rhea and Doug fight in the third. Doug almost gets K.O. but gets up. Doug breaks the nose of Rhea, but is very injured after he breaks his injured leg. In the end, Doug knocks Rhea out. Eva gets him off, Laflamme is inspired by Doug and make a hat-trick to make the Highlanders go to the playoffs. Doug says in the end to Eva(His lover):"I think I nailed him". A reference to what Rhea once said.

My Verdict: It was a pretty fun game, a lot of swearing and a lot of fighting. It was a good movie to watch. 3 out of 5 stars, a 6 out of 10.

Day Two: Doctor Who S04E03: Planet of the Ood

Oh my. Doctor Who is one of the best series that I've ever came across thanks to Netflix. I've been watching it in the beginning a lot, and I try to watch at least one episode a week now. This episode has to be one of the best.

Episode #191 is called Planet of the Ood. The Ood are a species that are used as butlers to serve the owners. Something most people would like to have in real life, including me. Quick recap, David Tennant is now the doctor, Rose is gone(I have a crush on Billie Piper), and Martha too. Now we have Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. I knew her from The Office, but she is doing a sublime job in this series.

Back to the episode. The Doctor sets the TARDIS(Time and Relative Dimension in Space) to random and they come into a snowy planet. When they are outside, Donna finds an Ood who is laying in the snow. The Ood is injured and needs help. Just before the Ood will die, his eyes turns red and Doctor is trying to find it what it is. When they are looking in distance, they see a factory. It's the Ood Operations, where Oods are kept and sold as servants. The Doctor that they are in the year 4126, in the Ood-Sphere. The CEO tells the Doctor that the killing method is always the same. The victims are being electrocuted by the Ood's spheres, that helps them to translate it to a language that people will understand.

The Ood's in their natural habitat.

Donna is getting more and more sympathy for the Oods and is not coping well with the enslavement that the Oods have. When the Doctor and Donna are going off track to check everything out, they are captured by the security force. Not a long time later, the Oods will begin a big revolution and the complex is being evacuated. When the Doctor follows the CEO, he sees a big and large brain. That brain controls the Ood's collective consciousness. It's limited because there is a force field made by pylons in a circle.

The CEO wants to kill the brain, but is stopped by the Doctor, Donna and Dr Ryder. He reveals that he is a activist for Friends of the Ood and has infiltrated the company. When the CEO finds out, he throws the doctor into the brain. Ood Sigma, the loyal servant of the CEO, has been using the CEO's hair medication to convert him into an Ood. He tells the Doctor and Donna that he will take car of the CEO. The Doctor is able to shut down the force field and the bombs that were placed by the CEO. After this, the Doctor and Donna go back to the TARDIS and begin their new adventure.

The Doctor and Donna find a container full with Ood's

My Verdict: This was a great episode. It might be my favorite one yet. It's good written and the Ood's get a big role. 9,5/10 4,5 out of 5 stars.

Day One: Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

Peter LaFleur(Played by Vince Vaughn, you know, the guy of Swingers, Wedding Crashers etc) has a gym. His gym's name is Average Joe's.

Then we have Ben Stiller who plays White Goodman. White owns Globo-Gym, a successful gym that is across the gym of Peter. Peter has to get 50.000 dollars in three days, because of his mortgage. If he is unable to get the money, White will foreclose the gym and demolish it to the ground so he can get a parking garage for his gym members. Kate Veatch (Played by Christine Taylor) is the attorney of White. The employees of Average Joe's(Dwight, Owen, Steve, Justin and Gordon) are trying to get the money that is needed for the gym. Gordon has a subscription to Obscure Sports Quarterly. Gordon reads about a dodgeball tournament that takes place in the city of neon-lights, Las Vegas.
The grand prize for the winners is 50.000 dollars. But to get to the tournament in Las Vegas, they have to win their local qualifying match.

This match is against a troop of Girl Scouts. They lose, but the girls are disqualified after one of the members is found positive on a drugs test. White has gotten a cardboard of himself in the gym of Peter, and has placed a camera in the board. He notices that LaFleur is getting a dodgeball team, so White is getting one of his own. White tries to get romantical with the attorney Veatch, but she doesn't want him. White later comes and gets Veatch fired. Infuriated as she is because of White his action, she joins Peter's team. At the tournaments, the Average Joe's get to the final. There they ofcourse face the Globo Gym. The evening before the match, White offers Peter 100.000 dollars to Average Joe's. He accepts it. He doesn't want to get playing because their coach, Patches dies. Lance Armstrong gives him a peptalk when Peter is drinking alcohol. Peter later decides to get back to the team to fight against Globo Gym. After a hard fight, sudden death comes. Peter blindfolds himself and is able to dodge the throw of White, while he hits White with his throw.

Because of this, Average Joe's wins and they get the 50.000 dollars. White says that the victory doesn't mean anything, because Peter singed the contract. Peter then explains that he used the 100 grand to put it on a bet that his team will win. The odds were 50 to 1, so he won 5 million. He buys a interest in Globo-Gym, that is more then 50%. Because Globo has Average Joe's, he gets both. When he told the story he fires White too. Kate(The attorney) confesses that she is bisexual and kisses her girlfriend and Peter. At the end, there is a video about Average Joe's. It is seeable that they started youth dodgeball classes, while White watches it and is seen that he now is obese and is eating too much because of depression.

My verdict: It was an okay film. It had one or two real funny moments, but the rest was a little bit predictial. It's a good movie to watch away. 3 out of 5 stars. 6/10 Side note: I used to play a dodgeball flash game when I was younger. I now know where the team names and logo's come from...
